Backing up data online is always a better idea than storing backups in local folders. Even if the entire hard disk fails, you will still have your important documents. Although it is an efficient solution, backing up data on a remote server raises another problem, regarding security. Certain backup services don't offer any security for your files, so you can't rest easy, knowing that your sensitive data can eventually be stolen. This is where Cyphertite comes in. Despite its simplicity, the application provides airtight security for your data. Its functionality is very easy to understand, even for novice users, so it won't take too long to back up and secure any amount of files.

Cyphertite is absolutely free and it is also open source, so you can make sure that its encryption capabilities are legit. It works on all modern Windows platforms, and it can be installed in less than a minute. You must also create an online account and when you run the application for the first time, a wizard will ask you to create unique pass phrase, which you must remember at all costs. It will be used to encrypt all your data and there is no way to recover it if you lose it.

To celebrate its two years of existence, the application has received a major appearance update. Instead of a web based user interface, Cyphertite now provides a native Windows interface, which is more flexible and much easier to control. It is integrated in Windows Explorer, which makes navigation faster and easier. You can bring up the interface by running the application's executable or by accessing a virtual folder, which can be found next to the local partitions, in Windows Explorer. Obviously, Cyphertite will ask for the master password, when you attempt to log onto the interface or access its virtual folders.

Cyphertite's home screen displays four tiles with various details, which are updated automatically when you perform certain operations. Selecting these tiles will take you to different sections of the interface, in which you can create new backups, browse through existing ones and make a few general configurations. You can also access a status page, which displays an overview of running, scheduled or recent backup operations.

When creating a new backup, you can target an unlimited number of files and folders, which was not possible in Cyphertite's previous version. Additionally, the application allows you to set up a schedule. Depending on your settings, backup tasks can run once, on demand or at a specific hour or regularly, on a daily, weekly or monthly basis. Created backups are encrypted and stored on a secure server, but you can find them in Windows Explorer. Restoring data can be done by simply copying or clicking and dragging the files from one location to another. Furthermore, Cyphertite will add new options in Windows Explorer's context menu. As a result, you can right click your files, on a standard explorer window and select an option to back up your files.

Pros

You can back up your data online and protect it with a powerful encryption protocol. Backups can be created without any effort on a user friendly interface. Additionally, the application adds new options in Windows Explorer's context menu, which makes it faster and easier to back up data.

Cons

The migration from a web-based interface to a native Windows interface has left Cyphertite without certain advantages, like remote access. The possibility of managing backups on the Cyphertite website would remedy this situation. With Cyphertite, you can back up your private data with only a few clicks and keep it private at all times.
